Abstract

Let us consider a solid body with prescribed volume force f V and support at equilibrium, which means that the sum of all forces as well as the sum of all moments are zero. By cutting out a small part of this solid body as demonstrated in Fig. 3.1a (without loss of generality we assume the faces to be parallel to the Cartesian coordinate system), we have to apply forces at the cutting planes to guarantee equilibrium (see Fig. 3.1b).
