Abstract

Crossflow-dominated transition in the accelerated three-dimensional boundary layer as defined by the canonical DLR-Göttingen Prinzipexperiment is investigated by spatial direct numerical simulation. Different transition scenarios are observed depending on the initial amplitude ratio between stationary and instationary perturbations. A highly resolved simulation confirms the onset of secondary high-frequency instabilities after saturation of the primary crossflow vortex.
