Abstract
After the segmentation process, which we discussed in the previous chapter, we extracted objects from images, i. e., we identified which pixels belong to which object. Now we can perform the next step and analyze the shape of the objects. First, we discuss a class of neighborhood operations, the morphological operators on binary images, which work on the form of objects (Sect. 15.2). Second, we consider the question of how to represent a segmented object in Sect. 15.3. In the remaining Sects. 15.4–15.6, we discuss parameters to describe the form of objects.
