The Likelihood of a Synapse Between Two Pyramidal Cells
Chapter
Abstract
We are now in a position to estimate the probability of one, two or more synapses between the axonal tree of one neuron and the dendrites of another given neuron situated at a certain distance from the first. We shall limit ourselves to synapses between pyramidal cells which are the most common synapses in the cortex and will disregard the distant connections through cortico-cortical fibres, about whose geometry we know very little. Thus, what we have in mind are the local connections between the axon collaterals of one pyramidal cell and the basal dendrites of another.
