Abstract

In various research disciplines, scientific advances rely on the application of computer simulation. The use of simulation opens innovative opportunities for analyzing and understanding systems by extending existing domainspecific approaches or by providing alternative techniques for investigating systems. Some shortcomings of conventional approaches include limited access, exposure to risk, or the non-existence of the investigated system as well as economic reasons such as the cost-benefit ratio (Banks, 2014).
