Abstract

Forests around the world have become important assets more than it was before. Managing and conserving the world’s remaining forests sustainably is vital for a continued supply of forest-related products and ecosystem services. In addition to this conventional role, the world’s forests have attracted attention for numerous other purposes in recent years, and consequently the quest to protect and conserve them is even greater than it used to be in the past.
