Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden die Höhen und Tiefen des weltweiten Goldstandards vom Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs bis zum Ende der 1960er Jahre untersucht. Die besondere Aufmerksamkeit der Autorin gilt dabei der Rückkehr zum Goldstandard nach dem Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg, sowie seine letztendliche Auflösung vor dem Hintergrund des Dollaraufstieges zur wichtigsten Weltwährung. Dabei wird auch die Rolle von BIZ und IMF als internationale Goldhortungs- und Verteilungsstätten untersucht. Der Autor beschäftigt sich auch mit den verschiedenen internationalen Abkommen in neuerer Zeit, die den Anstieg des Weltmarktpreises und damit die internationale Dollarabwertung aufhalten sollten. Hier werden Gründe der wachsenden Instabilität des modernen Weltfinanzsystems und die Aussichten für den Dollar als wichtigste Weltwährung untersucht, sowie Anzeichen für eine Wiederaufnahme der Geldfunktionen des Goldes diskutiert.
