Third-Person-Effekte im Gesundheitsbereich

Zusammenfassung

Die meisten Menschen denken, dass Massenmedien andere Personen stärker beeinflussen als sie selbst. Dieses Wahrnehmungsphänomen wird als Third-Person-Effekt (TPE) bezeichnet. Es ist wichtig hervorzuheben, dass dieser Eindruck verhaltensrelevante Konsequenzen haben kann. In diesem Kapitel stellen wir die Grundannahmen des TPE vor und präsentieren empirische Evidenz für den Gesundheitsbereich. Es zeigt sich, dass wichtige Befunde aus der allgemeinen Forschungsliteratur zum TPE auch im Gesundheitsbereich repliziert werden konnten. Verhaltensbezogene Effekte wurden allerdings im Gesundheitsbereich vernachlässigt, weshalb der vorliegende Beitrag mit einem Plädoyer für mehr Forschung in Bezug auf die Verhaltenskomponente des Third-Person-Effekts schließt.
