Vibrations of Monatomic and Diatomic Ligands in Metal Clusters and Complexes — Analogies with Vibrations of Adsorbed Species on Metals
Chapter
Abstract
Chemistry is concerned with the transformation of matter at the molecular level and catalysis by surfaces (heterogeneous catalysis) is of major importance in promoting such chemical reactivity. Metal surfaces are important catalysts for a wide variety of chemical transformations including, for example, reduction, oxidation, bond breaking and bond-forming processes [1]. A knowledge of the structures of the new chemical species formed by the interaction of reagents such as hydrogen, CO, N2 or hydrocarbons with metal surfaces is therefore of great interest and potential importance.
