Abstract
The correct surgical approach can have a major bearing on the outcome of an abdominal operation. The following criteria should be kept in mind when selecting an incision:
-
It must provide adequate exposure,
-
It must give rapid access,
-
It should allow a secure anatomic closure that preserves the strength of the abdominal wall,
-
It should give an acceptable cosmetic result.
