Abstract

A probabilistic fracture mechanics approach for the reliability assessment of precracked pipes in a PWR subjected to cyclic fatigue is described. The principal model assumptions are given and three different numerical evaluation techniques briefly discussed. Finally the capabilities of the approach are illustrated by determining the relative merits of different inspection measures and schemes with respect to a safety increase of nuclear components.
