Bowel Preparation Using Antimicrobial Measures

Abstract

Large bowel preparation is an important prerequisite in surgery of the colon and rectum. Four points must be considered:
  1. I.

    The bowel must be mechanically clean

     
  2. 2.

    There should be as few as possible pathogenic bacteria

     
  3. 3.

    The risk and discomfort to the patient should be small

     
  4. 4.

    The bowel preparation should not be expensive
