Molecular Cross-Linking
Chapter
Abstract
The number of cross-linkages present in a polymer network influences its rigidity. The cross-links may be chemical as in the vulcanization of rubber with sulfur trichloride, but in addition there may be physical entanglements between the molecular chains and these will increase the stiffening still further. The physical properties of the network are defined not so much by the detailed chemistry of the cross-links, but by their strength and number.
