The Programming Language PS 440 as a Tool for Implementing a Timesharing System

Abstract

The author is a member of a working group in the computing centre of the Technical University of Munich and is concerned with the development and construction of a timesharing system for a TELEFUNKEN TR 440 computer with two processors. The TR 440 is a large computer and the operating system will have to supervise batch jobs plus a satellite computer with about 50 terminals. Our storage consists of 256 k words of core storage with 0.9 /us cycletime, a 4 million word drum and a 30 million word disk. Later a mass core storage of 512 k words will be added. Every word has 48 information bits plus 2 bits each for data type and parity.
