Testing of Stabilizer in the Substrate
Abstract
As has been shown, stabilizers have to protect the substrate effectively during processing and in the course of the desired lifetime. For this reason, comprehensive testing of the finished article under the conditions to which the article is exposed in service is the best way to choose the right stabilization system. In the production of complex parts it is important that there is no stress which causes relaxation or post crystallization in service, e.g. outdoor weathering at varying temperatures, leading to cracks that are not the result of oxidative degradation. However, this strongly influences such degradation. Figure 6.1 shows such crack formation in a car bumper, running parallel with the direction of flow after a short service life.
