Abstract

Transformation of various genotypes of potato by Agrobacterium has become routine. Different procedures have been described (Stiekema et al. 1988; Sheerman and Bevan 1988). We here describe a method which works excellently with the variety Solanum tuberosum cv. Désirée, but has, however been proven to be applicable also for other varieties. Following this procedure, one person can produce several thousand independent transgenic plants per year in a highly reliable manner with very few, if any, escapes.
