Abstract

Despite recent diagnostic improvements and the possibility of benefiting from a more sophisticated form of intensive therapy, acute pancreatitis (AP) is still a major clinical problem with an overall mortality rate of 10 %, as has been the case now for the past 40 years or so [1,2].
