Dynamic Cardiomyoplasty
Chapter
Abstract
Dynamic cardiomyoplasty is a surgical procedure in which the skeletal latissimus dorsi muscle is wrapped around the heart to assist myocardial contraction. The skeletal muscle is stimulated by a pacemaker synchronous with the ventricular systole. Dynamic cardiomyoplasty is performed at our institution in patients with severe heart failure. Echocardiography has proven useful in evaluating the efficacy of this new surgical procedure.
