Abstract

In cor triatriatum an abnormal muscular membrane divides the left atrium into a posterosuperior chamber, which drains the pulmonary veins, and an anteroinferior chamber, leading to the mitral valve. The degree of obstruction to pulmonary venous return varies depending on the size of the orifice from the upper to the lower chamber.
