Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to summarize the geologic setting of the gold deposits in eastern Hebei province within the context of the Sino-Korean Platform. Following a brief summary of the main orogenic events which affected the Sino-Korean Platform, this discussion concentrates on aspects of the geology which are most relevant to the genesis of the gold deposits, namely:
-
1.
the lithology and metamorphic history of the Precambrian basement,
-
2.
the structural geology of the Precambrian basement and the timing and orientation of major fault zones,
-
3.
the Yanshanian (late Mesozoic) magmatism, which in this area involved dominantly granitic intrusions and dikes.
