A Model to Consider Clustering Effects for Composites

A multiple scattering model to take into account multipolar interactions between adjacent particles is developed to describe the optical properties of granular materials when aggregation of the particles occurs. This is done by considering the material as made up of scattering units containing pairs of spherical particles. The T-matrix approach is used to describe the scattering properties of the units and the effective medium properties of the material are obtained from the multiple scattering equation of the medium after a statistical average is performed.
