Abstract
Experimental studies in rats have demonstrated that the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor Captopril shifts the lower and upper limits of autoregulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) towards lower blood pressure levels (Barry et al. 1984). Studies in patients with severe cardiac failure, hypertension and normal volunteers suggest a similar effect in man (Paulson et al. 1988). The present study was undertaken in order to further evaluate the effect of Captopril on cerebral autoregulation, the intracranial pressure (ICP) and the cerebral perfusion pressure.
