Abstract

A lumbosacral disk herniation may give rise to a rich variety of symptoms: acute lumbar pain, radicular pain of a crural (L 3 or L 4 nerve roots) or sciatic [L 5 or S 1 (S 2) ] nature. Ordinary sciatica is a monoradicular pain of vertebral origin due to nerve root compression of diskal origin at the L 4–L 5 or L 5–S 1 level and involving a mechanical or degenerative process.
