Abstract

This chapter is based on an empirical study with a psychoanalytic slant, which was designed to examine to what extent concomitant psychosocial factors in the lives of women with carcinoma of the breast influence the development and, in particular, the course of the illness. At the same time, it was possible to draw on over 10 years’ experience in a consultancy for tumor patients, which was concerned particularly with female patients with carcinoma of the breast [2,6].
