Soybean Lectin Binding to the Olfactory System of Xenopus
Conference paper
Abstract
It is now accepted that cell surface glycans linked to proteins (glycoproteins) or lipids (glycolipids) mediate cell-cell interactions during neurogenesis (Gombos et al. 1978; Edelman 1983). Three main experimental approaches have been used to investigate this aspect of brain development: biochemical analysis of brain homogenates to characterise relevant molecules (Rostas et al. 1979), use of antibodies in cell and tissue cultures (Gallo et al. 1985) and histochemical probing of the brain with antibodies (De Bias et al. 1984) and lectins (Nicolson 1974).
