An Optimum Pulse Width Modulation Based on 0–1 Programming for Harmonic Reduction
Conference paper
Abstract
Pulse width modulation (PWM) was initially introduced for communication techniques, but is now widely used in many applications. PWM is popularly used in power inverters to obtain a variable frequency a.c. power supply to control the speed of a.c. derives. PWM pulses are conventionally obtained by comparing the signal sine wave (modulating signal) with a high frequency carrier wave, usually a triangular wave. The main disadvantage of this technique is the high harmonic contents.
