Oral Vitamin A (Retinol) in Acne Vulgaris

Abstract

The use of oral vitamin A in the management of acne has been controversial. In 1943, Straumfjord reported that 79 of 100 patients treated with 100,000 I.U. daily were completely cleared or nearly so after six months of therapy (20). Furthermore, only three patients failed to improve Similar impressive results were reported by Davidson and Sobel (4). Likewise, Germeraad et al. treated 130 cases for 6 to 9 months with 300,000 units daily with significant benefit (7).
