Abstract

We have reported that anaesthetics influence the human hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis [11–17, 20–23, 26, 28], and emphasized its different responses between anaesthetics and between man and woman. Further, we have recently found that estradiol appears to play an important role in regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis during anaesthesia and surgery [17].
