Zusammenfassung
Es sind zwei mögliche Wirkungsmechanismen beschrieben worden. Basische Wismutsalze und komplexe Wismutverbindungen, beispielsweise Trikaliumdicitrat-Bismuthat, bilden bei saurem pH ein Chelat mit Proteinen. Es ist denkbar, daß dadurch ein Schutzfilm zustande kommt, der v. a. über fibrinbedeckten Epitheldefekten eine gute Haftfähigkeit zeigt. Wismutverbindungen haben dagegen keine antacide und antisekretorische Wirkung. Es ist mehrfach behauptet, aber nie direkt gezeigt worden, daß Wismutverbindungen die Bildung von Granulationsgewebe und dadurch die Heilung der Epitheldefekte direkt fördern.
