Abstract
In the past decades surgeons discussing achalasia have stressed one of the two general aspects: the nature of the defect in the esophageal innervation and the persisting conflict between the advocates of pneumatic dilatation and those of cardiomyotomy. Today, Heller’s operation is the best known procedure.
