Abstract

Of the four cardiac valves, the MV has been the most extensively studied by echocardiography, for not only is it a relatively easily detectable intracardiac landmark, but its motion pattern has allowed, to some extent, a noninvasive assessment of LV function. Indeed, MV motion patterns result from a combination of MV flow and the interplay between left atrial and ventricular pressure [314].
