Abstract

We begin by agreeing that henceforth we shall drop the bar when we denote the image of z by \( \bar A \in \bar \Gamma \) thus we shall write A(z) in place of Ā(z). Furthermore, in this section we define and discuss modular functions without regard to the question of their existence—this question will be treated in §3.
