The Airborne Lidar for Tropospheric Ozone (ALTO)
Conference paper
Abstract
An airborne lidar has been developed for tropospheric ozone monitoring. The transmitter module is based on a solid state Nd-YAG laser to generate 3 wavelengths which are used for differential ozone measurements. The system has been successfully flown on the French Fokker 27 aircraft in 1995. Measurement ranges of 6 km were obtained with a 1 min. integration time and 300 m range resolution. Both lower tropospheric (0.5 – 5 km) and upper tropospheric ozone measurements (5–11 km) were performed. The ozone accuracy is of the order of 10%.
