Zusammenfassung

Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde mit dem Wiederaufleben der internationalen Kommunikation in der psychiatrischen Forschung die Notwendigkeit einer gemeinsamen Klassifikation ersichtlich (Stengel 1959). Ein Ziel in der Abteilung für Seelische Gesundheit der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) war die Entwicklung einer solchen Klassifikation, und ein Expertenkomitee bereitete das Kapitel über die Psychiatrie für die 8. überarbeitete Auflage der ICD (WHO 1965) vor.
