Defining margins for systematic rotations and translations: A probability based geometrical approach

Abstract

In the ICRU 50 report, a formalism is provided to account for geometrical uncertainties in treatment planning. In this formalism, the geometrical uncertainties are incorporated by adding a margin to the clinical target volume (CTV), thus yielding the planning target volume (PTV).
