Normal and Pathological Anatomy of the Glenoid: Effects on the Design, Preparation, and Fixation of the Glenoid Component
Summary
In an effort to better understand anatomical and pathological aspects of the glenoid that may be of surgical importance, we reviewed the literature and performed ourselves several studies analysing (a) the size and shape of the normal glenoid surface, (b) the radius of curvature of the glenoid surface and the corresponding humeral head, (c) the horizontal orientation of the glenoid (glenoid version), (d) the vertical orientation of the glenoid (glenoid inclination), (e) the possibilities of bony fixation of a glenoid component. All the results are discussed in terms of their surgical relevance for glenoid orientation, glenoid fixation and glenoid design.
