Remediation Strategies for Contaminated (Former) Military Sites
Conference paper
Abstract
The potential cost of contaminated sites remediation at (former) military bases in Eastern and Western Europe is enormous. Most countries can afford the remediation of only a small fraction of their contaminated military sites each year. Consequently, many contaminated (former) military sites will not be remediated in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, contaminants are migrating in the environment with rain- and groundwater movement, continuously expanding the area of contamination and increasing the cost of future remediation.
