Abstract
The still operative Tailings Pond Facility (TPF) Rozna is situated near to Brno. It includes an area of 40 ha containing 15 Mio m3 of tailings. To reduce the exposure of contaminants and to modify the water treatment technology before the closure of the uranium mining and milling in Rozna, a PHARE project was realized in 1999 to resolve the water balance by numerical modeling, both for the present and the future. For this purposes, HELP was used to clarify the percolation, MODFLOW to model the groundwater movement and PHREEQE to simulate the hydro chemical discharge of contaminants for different remediation options and phases.
