Methodology to assess the radiological impact of a repository for uranium mill tailings after remediation (short-term impact)
Abstract
A radiological impact study consists in assessing the various individual radiological exposures taking into account all the possible exposure pathways, for population groups representative of local population. It is based on the calculation of the total added effective dose indicative of the fact that the repository radiological impact is added to the relatively high natural background radiological level of areas where uranium-mining sites are located. Population groups that receive the maximum impact from the site are considered as reference groups that are monitored to ensure that the site impact remains acceptable.
