The electron microscope study of airborne coal and rock dust
Conference paper
Abstract
Pneumoconiosis is a disease caused by breathing dusty air. Dust particles below the resolving power of the optical microscope do play a part in the development of the disease and therefore form a proper field of study for the electron microscope. The value of such a study will depend on the fraction by surface or mass of the total particles of respirable size which are in the electron microscope range (i. e. below 0.5 µ).
