Abstract

It is highly symbolic that the present congress on “Sport and International Understanding” is being held in a place which is so historic for the nations of Europe and the whole world — Finlandia Hall, where 7 years ago, on 1 August 1975, the Final Act of the Helsinki Conference was signed. That document has entered the annals of history as the Charter of Peaceful Coexistence and Co-operation. The ten principles of that document established a programme of development and strengthening of peace in the whole world through a bolstering of détente and international understanding.
