Abstract
In the second chapter of this volume we have put forward the idea that complex dynamical systems are capable of carrying out cognitive tasks, and we have shown the importance of studying artificial cognitive systems for a comprehension of the general characteristics of cognitive processes. The following chapters illustrate these concepts discussing the various approaches and models.
