Abstract

In this autobiographical piece, Mikhail Gromov, Abel Laureate 2009, recounts episodes from his childhood and early years, leading up to his becoming a mathematician. He tells the “gromomorphism” story about how he came to move to the US, and he gives some of his reflections on mathematics.
