The Italian Language in the European Information Society
The Italian language counts 62 million native speakers worldwide, which makes it the 20th most spoken native language in the world, and by 125 million speakers as a second language. Very large emigrant communities each consisting of over 500,000 people still speaking Italian are found in Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the United States.
