Software Collaboration Networks
The need to work together with others on large projects has been emphasized with industrialization. As the software industry grew, it should be no surprise that communities to serve this purpose appeared. With the creation of websites such as Sourceforge.net, Github.com, and Freshmeat.net developers from around the world are able to collaborate on open source projects. This paper will attempt to extend previous studies of software collaboration networks through the use of network analysis. Examining Sourceforge.net, we analyze this community of developers who have contributed greatly to open source software despite not being paid to do so.
