Computers and Big Business

Abstract

It’s 1953 and Blair Smith, a senior salesman from IBM, is returning to New York from a business trip to Los Angeles. He’s flying with American Airlines and in the seat next to him in business class is Cyrus Smith, who happens to be the president of American Airlines. They introduce themselves and realize that they share the same family name. This breaks the ice and they get to talking; it’s a long flight back to New York. Each talks about projects that he’s been working on.
