Traffic-Aware Geographical Routing in Vehicle Ad Hoc Networks
Abstract
The effectiveness and efficience of routing mechanism in VANET(Vehicle Ad Hoc Network ) are greatly affected by vehicle traffic, due to V2V links are vulnerably broken in the area of low vehicle density. This paper proposes a new junction-based geographical routing protocol called TARGET (Traffic-AwaRe GEographical rouTing). TARGET protocol consists of three modules: (1) junction selection, (2) data delivery between junctions, and (3) disruption recovery strategy. TARGET makes routing decisions by exploiting local traffic information and avoids forwarding packets to the area of low node density. The proposed routing protocol shows significant performance improvement in packet delivery ratio and packet delivery delay in comparative simulations with GPSR routing algorithm.
