Rasayana Therapy and Rejuvenation
Abstract
Rasayana is an important aspect of Ayurvedic therapeutics where drugs and formulations are used to improve the quality of life by improving the tissue quality and by reducing the age-related tissue degeneration. Rasayana therapeutics has got its own comprehensive yet traditional know-how of indications, methods of use, and formulations. We have come across many studies exploring the possible mechanisms of action of such rasayana drugs for their health-promotive and disease-preventive role. To make rasayana a dependable and reproducible method of intervention from Ayurveda, it however still requires a substantial sum of work. An evidence-based practice of rasayana would come as an eventuality if we are able to answer the questions about its mechanism, indication, suitability, and actual end points of the therapy in the form of primary and secondary outcomes. This chapter reviews the concept of rasayana in Ayurveda and gleams into the future needs to make it a more dependable form of therapy from Ayurveda.
