Abstract

Coastal States have the right to regulate marine scientific research in their maritime zones. All coastal States are entitled to a 200 nm exclusive economic zone. The continental shelf also extends at least to this distance. The determination of the 200 nm limit is a relatively straightforward process. It only requires measuring a distance of 200 nm from the baselines of the coastal State.
