Abstract

In this paper a characteristic heart sound calculation method is described for the sensitive detection of heart murmur related to patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in case of preterm newborns. The proposed algorithm is capable of indentifying the systolic murmur with 90°% sensitivity and 60°% specificity, which is a relevant step towards parameter extraction and finding a relationship between heart murmurs an important clinical parameters of the PDA.
